Designing for photo shoots is one of our greatest delights. It’s a chance not only to work with some of our most beloved colleagues, but also a chance to create inspiration entirely of our own choosing. Shoots recharge our creative souls.
This particular shoot was very special to us. Conceived by fabulous photographer Sarah Box and designed and styled by one of our heroes, Jessica Hearing of A Vintage Affair Events & Rentals, this shoot was meant to underscore the importance of the “gathered table” to a wedding—but even more importantly to a marriage. Food, friends and family—they are the building blocks of community. As we noted in the write-up for this shoot,
An integral part of a wedding celebration is the gathering of loved ones around a table to share food and drink. We were inspired by the belief in the power of good food and good drink to connect people as family, friends, and a community—and what more could one ask for in the celebration of a new marriage? In this intimate shoot, we wanted to highlight this idea. We called it the gathered table—a gathering of beautiful things and beloved people.
One of Denver’s most celebrated restaurants, The Kitchen, served as the perfect venue for this gathering. One of The Kitchen’s missions is to create community through food—the name of the restaurant was chosen for its desire to act much like the kitchen in one’s home, a center of conversation and connection. We extended the feelings and warmth of the home kitchen to all areas of this wedding and brought in elements of cooking and beautiful edibles to serve as the backdrop for the celebration.
When it came to flowers, we knew from the beginning that we wanted to incorporate all manner of edibles into the floral designs. Artichokes, kale, pomegranates, persimmons, rosemary, and lavender are all as beautiful as they are tasty and they paired perfectly with ranunculus, hydrangea, privet berry, roses, Peruvian apple and all manner of lush foliage and kiwi vine. We absolutely LOVED the result–homey but still special and gorgeous.
This shoot was picked up almost immediately after submission, and to the mother of all gorgeous wedding blogs, Style Me Pretty. See the entire feature, which–ever so appropriately–ran on Thanksgiving Day, here.
